Scholarships for Syrian Students: A Complete Guide (2026)

Everything Syrian and Syrian-Palestinian students need to know about Jusoor's scholarships, from eligibility to application steps.
Scholarships for Syrian Students: A Complete Guide (2026)

Every year, thousands of talented Syrian students complete high school or earn university admission, only to face a familiar obstacle: the cost of getting there. Tuition, travel, visas, and living expenses can stand between an admission letter and the first day of class. For displacement-affected Syrian families, many of whom are rebuilding their lives in Lebanon, Jordan, Türkiye, Europe, or Syria itself, these costs are often the single largest barrier to higher education.

Since 2011, we at Jusoor have worked to close that gap. As the leading organization supporting Syrian access to higher education globally, we have provided more than 900 scholarships to high school students alone, alongside hundreds more for undergraduate and graduate study around the world. In this guide, we walk through the scholarship opportunities we offer in 2026, who qualifies, how funding works, and how to apply, so that talented Syrian and Syrian-Palestinian students can find the pathway that fits their journey.

Key Insights:

  • Our scholarships are open exclusively to Syrians and Syrian-Palestinians, spanning high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels, with no funding currently offered for doctoral degrees.
  • The Open Call Scholarship bridges travel, visa, and living-cost gaps for students already admitted to top-ranked universities (Top 200 US, Top 20 Canada, Top 50 UK, or Top 100 Europe) with full funding secured elsewhere.
  • Our 100 Syrian Women, 10,000 Syrian Lives scholarship has supported 43 women across 19 universities in three countries, with a 100 percent graduation rate.
  • Since 2016, our partnership with United World Colleges has funded 26 International Baccalaureate scholarships, with 90 percent of alumni going on to receive university scholarships.
  • Our High School Scholarships program has provided 908 scholarships to date, helping displacement-affected Syrian adolescents in Lebanon complete Grades 10 through 12.
  • A newer partnership with the Juna Foundation opens vocational and professional certificate pathways in Lebanon and Syria, beyond traditional university degrees.
  • Every scholarship comes with wraparound support, including mentorship, psychosocial care, and university application guidance, not funding alone.

Why Scholarships Matter for Syrian Students

The barriers facing Syrian students are well-documented. According to UNICEF, more than 7,000 schools in Syria have been damaged or destroyed by the conflict, and close to two million children remain out of school. The World Bank estimates Syria's reconstruction costs between 2011 and 2024 at $216 billion. These figures describe a generation whose education was interrupted, not a generation without ability or ambition.

We see this every day in our Scholarships Program (SCH). The students we support are not seeking charity. They are aspiring engineers, doctors, researchers, and entrepreneurs who have already cleared extraordinary hurdles to secure university admission, and who need one more piece of support, often travel costs, a visa fee, or a living stipend, to actually enroll. Our role is to remove that final barrier so that talent, not funding gaps, determines who gets to study.

This is also why our scholarships extend beyond university. Many displaced Syrian families in host countries cannot afford the high school tuition that normally leads to a national baccalaureate exam, the formal qualification required to access university and decent work. Supporting students earlier in the pipeline, not only at the point of university admission, has become a core part of how we close the opportunity gap from the ground up.

Jusoor's Scholarship Programs in 2026

We offer several distinct scholarship pathways, each designed for a different stage of a student's academic journey. Below is an overview of our current programs.

Open Call Scholarship: Bridging the Final Funding Gap

Many Syrian students secure admission to leading universities abroad, including top-ranked institutions in Europe and North America, and are awarded full tuition or full living-expense scholarships directly from their university or a third party. Yet they still risk not enrolling, or having to withdraw, because they cannot cover travel, visa, or essential living costs.

Our Open Call Scholarship, first launched in 2022, exists specifically to bridge that gap. It is open to undergraduate and graduate Syrian students admitted to top-ranked universities, defined as Top 200 in the United States, Top 20 in Canada, Top 50 in the United Kingdom, or Top 100 in Europe according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, who have already secured full tuition or full living-expense funding from another source. Since launching, we have supported 19 Open Call scholars in completing their academic journeys.

100 Syrian Women, 10,000 Syrian Lives

Our flagship women's scholarship provides funding for Syrian women to study at the undergraduate and graduate levels across the United Kingdom, Europe, and North America. We select outstanding women who have demonstrated academic excellence, social service, civic responsibility, and the potential to become global leaders.

This scholarship is co-funded through partnerships with university tuition waivers, with Jusoor complementing the award to cover travel, living expenses, and psychosocial support. Scholars also receive career development and leadership workshops and a mentor network. To date, we have supported 43 scholars to study at 19 universities across three countries, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, achieving a 100 percent graduation rate. More than 80 percent of these scholars are now employed, including at leading global companies.

Jusoor-UWC International Baccalaureate Scholarships

Since 2016, we have partnered with United World Colleges (UWC) and the UWC Syria National Committee to fund partial scholarships for high-achieving, low-income Syrian students to pursue the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at UWC schools worldwide. UWC covers tuition, room and board, and pastoral care, while we provide partial grants of up to $10,000 to cover travel, living costs, university application fees, legal paperwork, and standardized testing.

We have provided 26 of these scholarships to date, and 90 percent of our UWC alumni go on to receive scholarships for university degrees, several at globally prestigious institutions.

High School Scholarships (HSS)

For many displacement-affected Syrian adolescents in Lebanon, secondary education itself is out of reach. Fewer than 15 percent of Syrian adolescents in Lebanon are enrolled in high school, and only 10 percent reach higher education, according to UNHCR. Since piloting our High School Scholarships in 2022 at Tuyoor Al-Amal School in Tripoli, we have expanded to additional centers, providing tuition, transportation, extra support classes, university application guidance, and psychosocial support so students can complete Grades 10 through 12 and sit the Lebanese Baccalaureate exam.

We have now provided 908 scholarships in total through this program. Once students complete high school, our University Application Support service helps them with CV development, communication skills, and university and scholarship applications, smoothing the transition into higher education.

Jusoor-Juna Foundation Scholarship

Not every talented student wants, or needs, a four-year university degree abroad. Our partnership with the California-based Juna Foundation opens a different pathway: in-person Professional Development Certificates, Vocational Certifications, and partially funded bachelor's programs in Lebanon and Syria. The scholarship covers tuition, registration fees, living stipends, and essential learning tools such as WiFi and laptops.

Our first cohort of six scholars enrolled in fall 2025 across three institutions, pursuing fields including information technology and management, nursing care, automotive mechanics, electromechanics, dental laboratory sciences, and a Bachelor of Nursing. This program reflects our broader commitment to creating a continuous educational pathway, from secondary school through vocational training, professional certification, or university, depending on what best fits each student's goals.

Who Is Eligible

While each scholarship carries its own specific criteria, several eligibility principles apply across our Scholarships Program.

Our scholarships are open exclusively to Syrians and Syrian-Palestinians. We do not currently offer scholarships to students of other nationalities, nor do we offer funding for doctoral studies. Most of our undergraduate and graduate scholarships are open to transfer students, provided they have not already graduated with the same degree they are applying to pursue.

Eligibility generally depends on three factors: academic merit, financial need, and, for several of our scholarships, prior admission to a qualifying institution. For Open Call specifically, applicants must already hold an offer of full tuition or living-expense funding from their university or a third party before applying to us for supplementary support.

Because each scholarship has its own application window and requirements, we recommend visiting our Scholarships page, which we update with currently open opportunities, deadlines, and application materials.

How to Apply

Applying for a Jusoor scholarship generally follows these steps.

  1. Review current openings. Visit our Scholarships page to see which programs are currently accepting applications and their respective deadlines.
  2. Confirm your eligibility. Check the specific requirements for the scholarship you are interested in, including nationality, academic level, and, where relevant, prior funding offers.
  3. Prepare your documents. Most applications require academic transcripts, a personal statement, and, for university-level scholarships, proof of admission or funding from the receiving institution.
  4. Submit before the deadline. Each scholarship maintains its own timeline, so submitting early gives our team time to review your application thoroughly.
  5. Stay engaged. Subscribing to our newsletter and following our updates helps you learn about new scholarship openings as they are announced throughout the year.

Beyond Funding: The Support That Comes With a Jusoor Scholarship

A scholarship from Jusoor is rarely just a check. Our scholars typically receive a wraparound package of support designed to help them succeed, not only enroll. Depending on the program, this includes career development and leadership workshops, mentorship from our global alumni network, psychosocial support, and guidance on university and scholarship applications.

We also maintain an active Academic Mentorship Program, which connects students with professionals who can help them think through their academic and career paths. Once a scholar graduates, many remain connected to our community of scholars and alumni, a network that continues to open doors well beyond the classroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for a Jusoor scholarship?
