Our Online Learning Platform Earns the Bronze Equity Certification

EduEvidence certifies Azima with Equity Certification
EduEvidence certifies Azima with Equity Certification

Our online learning platform Azima, delivered entirely on WhatsApp to Syrian refugee children in Lebanon, was granted the Bronze Equity Certification.

EduEvidence, the certifying body, is a not-for-profit organization based in Norway, committed to providing evidence-based certifications for EdTech products globally. The Equity Certification is dedicated to solutions that support marginalized communities and give access to underserved communities.

EduEvidence has shared that Azima “meets EduEvidence’s Equity criteria by demonstrating impactful, equitable educational approaches.”

Launched in 2020, Azima provides online education through WhatsApp to reach Syrian refugee students in Lebanon who cannot enrol in school for various reasons, such as needing to work, taking care of younger siblings, or legal issues. To date, Azima has provided education to more than 1200 students. The initiative started during the COVID-19 pandemic and has continued since then.

Through WhatsApp groups between parents and teachers, short instructional videos and activities are sent out regularly. Students then send their own photos of homework and videos back to the teachers for feedback and corrections. This is complemented with offline learning packets that enable students to continue learning from home when internet is not available, and psychosocial support is provided through videos and in-person calls by Jusoor’s dedicated psychosocial counselor.

We have also used its success to adapt our centers to online learning during times of crisis in Lebanon in 2024 and 2026.

Azima was also selected as part of the Global HundrED Collection for 2026, which facilitated the opportunity for the project to be nominated for certification.
