We’re now deep into Phase 3 of Bridges to Syria—shaping the projects and partnerships that will bring this initiative to life. Over the past few months, we’ve listened, consulted, gathered insights, and identified key areas where Jusoor can lead with impact. Today, the conversation is evolving into action.
This update highlights the recent momentum where each step is drawing us closer to our next chapter inside Syria.
Progress We Have Made
Higher Education Partnerships
Momentum is building around our university initiative. We’re collaborating with diaspora academics and Syrian institutions to co-design course content, introduce mentorship, and support digital access to journals and research. Plans are underway to send a delegation from the Syrian Science Council this summer, offering workshops and building research capacity.
Digital Learning and Youth Skills
Explorations are also ongoing around future-skills programming for young people, spanning from digital literacy to AI and coding. We’re engaging with innovators in the field to explore what kind of programs can realistically take root, even amid infrastructural limitations.
Field Engagement & Summer Project Planning
Our team has returned from visits to areas like Harasta and Douma in the Damascus suburbs, sites that were once thriving but now face the monumental challenge of rebuilding. From these visits, we're preparing the launch of our first pilot projects this summer, focusing on teacher training and the rehabilitation of existing schools that can reopen quickly and safely.
Alumni & Scholar Survey Insights
To better understand the long-term needs of Syrian youth abroad, we conducted a survey with our scholars and alumni. The results were deeply insightful. One key takeaway: while education remains an essential pathway, access to dignified, well-paying job opportunities is a major factor that would influence a potential return to Syria. These findings reinforce Jusoor’s direction to strengthen education and once sanctions are lifted, to build programs that improve livelihoods and create opportunities.
