In partnership with Sawaed Syria, we launched preparatory courses for high school students entering their final year of high school this summer. These students face a shortage of qualified teachers, especially in English and other core subjects.
Our program supported 36 students in Muadamiat Al Sham across seven main subjects, providing them with free, accessible courses to prepare for their baccalaureate exams. This initiative is vital for ensuring that more young people in Syria are ready to take the next academic step despite years of disrupted education.
Disrupted Education
These students face a significant challenge; the ongoing Syrian crisis has marked their entire educational journey. This has meant a shortage of qualified teachers, overcrowded classrooms, the absence of stimulating learning environments, and the destruction of many schools. As a result, many students have grown reluctant to continue their studies.
The initiative covered seven core subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Natural Sciences, English, Arabic, and French. It aimed to familiarize students with the curriculum, help them recover learning losses, and ensure they enter their last high school year well prepared.
Jusoor & Sawaed Intervention Results
The Initiative reached 36 students (20 males and 16 females) who attended 4 classes per day, 6 days a week, for three months over the summer. Since Jusoor covered the salaries of the teachers for 2 months, the courses were completely free for the students. Attendance ranged from 60%-90% each day.
