This month, we share Dr. Sara Al Midany’s story, who began her journey with Jusoor in 2016 as an Emergency and Medical Services student at the University of New Mexico. We are also gearing up for another fruitful academic year with all our students – from our youngest learners at our refugee education centers to our college students in Syria and all over the globe. We also have an exciting new partnership in Syria and celebrated the graduation of our high school scholars in Lebanon.
Sara Al Midany: From a Bachelor’s degree with Jusoor to a Licensed Paramedic to Further Studies
In 2016, Sara was awarded a scholarship from Jusoor to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Services at The University of New Mexico. Her academic journey opened the door not only to a degree, but also to a deeper commitment to healthcare, medicine, and serving others. In 2020, after completing her studies, Sara served her community as a licensed paramedic at Albuquerque Ambulance Services for five years. Building on that frontline experience, she later returned to school to continue advancing in the medical field and is currently pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant, with an expected graduation date at the end of 2026. Sara’s journey reflects a strong and sustained dedication to healthcare, leadership, and community service.

62 High School Scholars Graduate in Tripoli, Lebanon
We are thrilled to celebrate the graduation of our High School Scholarship students from Tuyoor AlAmal School in Tripoli, Lebanon. 62 students have worked hard all year to pursue their high school education, despite all the struggles, sometimes years of disrupted education, displacement, and particularly a year when the country was engulfed in war. We are so proud of their success and thank Tuyoor AlAmal for their partnership and support of our students. Our High School Scholarships program, launched in 2022, supports students in grades 10–12 in Lebanon by covering school fees, extra classes, aid with university applications, and psychosocial support, allowing talented young Syrians in Lebanon to finish high school studies.

At our Refugee Education Centers in Lebanon, a new academic year starts with our teachers going back to learning. From September 15 to 22, our staff took part in our annual in-service training week. All staff joined sessions on first aid, the life skills curriculum, and building stronger teacher-parent partnerships. Our newer teachers also trained in positive classroom management, assessment, and differentiated instruction for diverse learners. We chose each session with classrooms in mind, where many students have had their schooling interrupted and need individualized support to thrive. Teachers left with fresh skills, new strategies, and insights shared by their colleagues. When our teachers keep growing, our students do too. We cannot wait to welcome students back to our three centers in October!
