Since 2020, the Jusoor–Coursera Scholarship has been quietly doing something remarkable: giving Syrians and Palestinian-Syrians free access to certified, world-class online education. No fees. No barriers. Just learning.
As we mark six years of the program, here is a look at what the numbers tell us and what they mean.
The Numbers
To date, 3,262 unique learners have completed 5,281 courses through the scholarship. But perhaps more telling than the total is who keeps coming back: 84% of learners are returning learners, which attests to the value the community finds in these courses.
What Learners Are Studying
The most popular courses cluster around Business, Computer Science, and Data Science, fields with clear pathways to employment and professional growth. The top five courses completed by learners are Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere; Foundations of Cybersecurity; Foundations of Project Management; Introduction to Data Analytics; and Python for Data Science, AI & Development.
These are not casual interests. They are deliberate, career-oriented choices made by people who know exactly what skills they need.
The course with the highest completion rate of 89.5% is ‘Accelerate Your Job Search with AI’. That figure speaks to something important: when content is directly relevant to a learner's immediate reality, engagement follows.
What Learners Are Saying
The program holds an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars, with the overwhelming majority of learners giving 5-star feedback. That kind of satisfaction reflects not just the quality of Coursera's course content, but the organizational support, community alignment, and learner services that Jusoor brings to the program.
